Title: The Lord is my Shepherd

(Psalm 23:1-6) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me  in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.

Describing  the Lord as our shepherd, David was a great man who had an opportunity to take care of sheep when he was young. He understood how these sheep he was tending were depending on him for food, for security from other wild animals, and for their good health. Wholly depended on him for livelihood. The New Testament explains to us that Jesus is the good shepherd. (John 10:11) “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

Christ is the good shepherd who has laid down His life for the sheep. We are His sheep, He will protect us from the wild beast, no evil will come near us. When we recognize Jesus as our good shepherd and follow Him, we should not entertain any fear. As the sheep is dependent on the shepherd, following the shepherd , trusting the shepherd for protection and guidance, that is the way we should be depending on Jesus to guide and protect us in all areas of life.

Our shepherd knows the green pastures, and the quiet waters that will restore us. We will get to these places only if we will trust and obey. We have to trust and keep obeying and following Our Shepherd even when His leading looks confusing or not making sense. When we are not following His leadings and directions, that is when we will fall off the track, and life will become risky. Life has no predictions, so for our best interest let us persevere in following Jesus our good shepherd. He is the only one who knows all the Conners of the road, He knows where the traffic bumps are, He has the compass and knows where there is danger.

The Psalmist says even when he walk through the valley of death , that he will not fear evil. If we allow the good shepherd to guide us, no matter where He is leading us to, we will fear no evil.

We should follow this shepherd who has all the things we need to sustain life. He will not take us to any place His presence or His Grace cannot go. We are safe in Jesus our good shepherd. He will guide us with hope, comfort and lead u to eternity. He provides protection at all times, we will also dwell with Him forever and ever, He has promised to guide and protect us throughout our lives and take us to His eternal home. We have to really surrender our lives to this great shepherd, no other life outside Him to my understanding. May His grace continues to strengthen us in Jesus name.

Prayers: Thank you Lord for being mindful of me. Help me to understand that only in you I can move and have my being. Help me to follow you wherever you go so that I will not go astray. Father come into my life and have your way in Jesus name.
