Title: Do not follow the ways of the Evil Men.
(Proverbs 1: 8-19) Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”—
my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into evil,
they are swift to shed blood.
How useless to spread a net where every bird can see it! These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves! Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.
Children learn values, morals, and behaviors by observing their parents. Whatever they see their parents and their grandparents do is what they go by. If their parents exhibit the fear of the Lord in their homes , the children will copy the same thing. I ran into a boy years ago who was caught for stealing, when I asked him why he was stealing , he told me that the only way he knew how to get what he wanted was to go and steal because his father was taking him with him when he was small to go and break people’s houses, so his father taught him how to steal.
What we teach our children is what they will know. What the children see their parents do is what is going to shape their attitudes and behaviors. If you don’t pray in your home, or you don’t go to church , how do you expect your child to learn anything about God? If you have children try and show them the way of the Lord, show them by example, you have to have the fear of God in you before you can teach your children to fear God. Make effort to lead your children to the way of the Lord. Take them to church, pray with them, read the word of God to them. Let them learn by observing you. The best thing you can do for your children is to bring them up in the Lord and when they grow they will not depart from it. ( Proverbs 22:6) Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it. Children should be taught how to obey their parents too. When they are brought up in the Lord, in obedient with the word of God they will grow into better leaders and they will carry what they learn from their parents to their own homes.
God is also warning us not to keep evil association. ( Proverbs 1:10) My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in with them. We need to stay away from ungodly people. Anyone who is not interested in the things of God , is like a distractor. We cannot let them infect us , their ways or lifestyles , should not attract us. We should be directing them to the Lord and praying for them. If we follow their ways and allow them to corrupt us, we will be the one to bear the consequences. Remember when Eve listened to the lies of the serpent, and ate the forbidden fruit, also gave to her husband. God didn’t accept their excuses, but He punished both of them .
Sin is deadly, We can’t be friendly with sin and expect to remain in good terms with our Heavenly Father. Sin has very unbearable consequences, any communication that will cause us to sin, let us run away from such. (Matthew 5:30) And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Let us ask God for wisdom , so He can give us more discerning spirit to recognize and avoid the traps of sin in Jesus name.
Prayers: God help me to be a child of God leading by example. Help me to bring my children up according to your will . Help me to be a light to people around me in Jesus Name.
